About & sources

A hands-in-pockets cartoon dog remains unbothered.

Date

Phillip Banks / @PhillipBankss posted the character October 4, 2023; wider TikTok meme spread in 2024.

History

Phillip Banks introduced the dog as My New Character in October 2023, describing an unbothered personality. By November 2024, TikTok captions placed him in tense relationships and everyday mishaps while insisting he was just a chill guy; brands also joined the trend. Banks publicly rejected cryptocurrency projects using his art. In November 21 posts, he said planned takedowns targeted unauthorized merchandise and crypto tokens, not people reposting, editing or having fun with the character; he asked brands for credit. These statements distinguish fan participation from commercial exploitation, not a blanket release of the artwork or an endorsement of the CHILLGUY token. The 2024 marker denotes wider circulation, not the drawing’s creation.
