Two Buttons: “Black and blue dress” versus “White and gold dress”; a sweating man cannot decide.

A wardrobe decision becomes a crisis

The dress argument becomes a control panel with no safe answer. The sweating face turns a colour disagreement into a decision that apparently requires emergency training.

Two Buttons redrawn: “Wanting to be alone” and “Needing social interaction”; the character presses both and gives a thumbs-up, labelled “Me”.

Both buttons. Still no solution.

This variation changes the drawing, not just the labels. Pressing both buttons makes two incompatible needs coexist; the cheerful thumbs-up is an impressively unconvincing claim that everything is fine.

Two Buttons redrawn: “Buying your kid a PS5” and “Not allowing them to use it”; both pressed, then a smiling thumbs-up labelled “Parents”.

The gift comes with a catch

The buttons no longer demand a choice. The parent confidently chooses both an expensive present and a rule that makes the present unusable: a contradiction presented as successful problem-solving.

About & sources

Two incompatible button labels and a sweating decision-maker turn an abstract dilemma into a tiny control-room drama.

Date

Selected 2014 follows the attributed October 25 original comic; documented Imgur and Reddit recirculation followed in 2015.

History

Know Your Meme attributes the original comic to animator Jake Clark on Tumblr on October 25, 2014, then documents an Imgur repost and Reddit circulation on February 1, 2015. This secondary-source chronology is not independent verification of the first-ever derivative. Selected 2014 follows the original drawing, not the later database entry or 2020 both-buttons redraw. Changing the labels lets the same anxious character represent conflicting commitments; an apparent contradiction in a caption is a joke or argument, not proof about the people it labels. Representative cropped artwork only: this preview shows the sweating character rather than the complete two-button layout. The crop does not show the artist signature; Jake Clark is credited here and through the linked history. The drawing is copyrighted and attribution is not permission for public reuse. Private research preview, no endorsement.
