About & sources

Steven He’s exclamation becomes the punctuation for a painful roast.

Date

Steven He skit uploaded September 21, 2021; reaction edits in late 2021; image-macro spread in January 2022.

History

Steven He plays both the gamers and their repeatedly defeated avatar in When “Asian” Is a Difficulty Mode, uploaded September 21, 2021. Beyond Easy, Medium and Hard, the game’s “Asian” setting makes ordinary obstacles lethal. A high-level Boss Aunty asks when Steven got so fat; the avatar dies of emotional damage, and the player shouts the phrase at the screen. The exclamation became a punchline appended to other people’s roasts and setbacks on TikTok, detached from its original game parody. Contemporary NextShark reporting described dedicated reaction accounts; January 2022 screenshot macros carried the phrase into still-image jokes. The 2022 marker denotes that image-macro spread, not the sketch’s creation. These local stills do not preserve He’s vocal delivery or the full performance.
