A cat in a blue shirt reads a newspaper over coffee: “I should buy a boat.” — A very expensive breakfast thought
Source ↗
Credit & details
Nothing in the picture suggests a nautical emergency. That is why the quiet, wildly expensive impulse feels funny: an ordinary morning has suddenly become a lifestyle upgrade.
Underlying still from Björk’s “Triumph of the Heart” music video, directed by Spike Jonze.; Know Your Meme links the boat-caption post to Reddit user DrTango.; uploader is not automatically the creator.

The newspaper-reading cat: “I should write a book.” — Three upvotes away from a publishing deal
Source ↗
Credit & details
The caption turns a moment of confidence into a whole imaginary career. Know Your Meme connects this version with a Reddit post about a long comment getting three upvotes: a tiny audience, a very large next step.
Underlying still from Björk’s “Triumph of the Heart” music video, directed by Spike Jonze.; Know Your Meme links the book-caption post to Reddit user RoTTaax; uploader is not automatically the creator.

The cat thinks “I should buy a horse head mask”; a second panel gives it the mask and says “Best decision of my life”. — The rare impulse purchase with a sequel
Source ↗
Credit & details
The format gets a second panel and actually follows through. The absurd purchase is not regretted; the new horse-headed breakfast companion gives it an entirely disproportionate endorsement.
Underlying still from Björk’s “Triumph of the Heart” music video, directed by Spike Jonze.; this is a later archived copy of the horse-mask variation.; uploader is not automatically the creator.

About & sources

A newspaper-reading cat becomes a miniature portrait of sudden ambition: a serious-looking reader decides that buying something is the answer.

Date

Selected 2012 marks a February 2 Reddit caption documented by Know Your Meme, not the 2005 music video or an independently verified first-ever use.

History

Know Your Meme identifies the source scene as Björk’s Triumph of the Heart music video, directed by Spike Jonze and released in 2005. It documents DrTango posting a captioned screen capture to Reddit on February 2, 2012, followed by reposts and variations such as wanting to write a book. Selected 2012 is that documented caption checkpoint, not the filming date or independently verified first-ever meme. The replaceable purchase turns the cat’s formal pose into an imagined inner monologue. Representative uncaptioned music-video still only, not playable music/video or a complete editable template. The source does not establish filming conditions, animal-welfare verification or public redistribution permission. Music-video and image rights remain with their respective owners; private research preview, not endorsement.
