A party-hatted figure stands apart from dancing guests: “I wish I was at home playing video games.” Smaller thoughts say the music is too loud, feet hurt, and “I’m hungry.” — There are video games at home, you know

The complaints shrink from an escape plan to bodily inconveniences. Nothing has gone dramatically wrong; being at the party is simply losing to every available alternative. This is the actual captioned drawing, not an empty template.

The speaker has a real subject to be proud of, but no bridge from that achievement to the dance floor. The contrast is between two social contexts—not a claim that speedrunning is easy or worthless. The archived screenshot preserves the visible account and post date.

Gollum’s head replaces the corner guest: “They don’t know I’ve been following them for 3 days…” The guests answer: “That’s Gollum. He’s been following us for 3 days.” Tolkien character faces and a kissing fan-art couple complete the edit. — The secret is not quite as secret as Gollum thinks

The usual silent room finally gets a reply. Gollum imagines himself a master of concealment while the other guests are already discussing him. The pasted-in fantasy characters move the lonely internal monologue into an absurd Middle-earth party; this is a fan edit, not a film scene.

About & sources

A lone partygoer wishes for the comfort of home while everyone else seems absorbed in the party, turning social discomfort into a reusable inner monologue.

Date

Selected 2009 marks a December 16 party-comic upload documented by Know Your Meme, not independently verified authorship or the later They Don’t Know variant.

History

Know Your Meme documents a December 16, 2009 upload to Sad and Useless showing a lone figure at a party wishing to be home playing video games. It also records a 2011 video adaptation and 2014 themed comic variations. Selected 2009 is this documented upload checkpoint, not independently verified first-ever use or authorship. The related They Don’t Know caption variation spread in November 2020; that is a later reuse, not this exhibit’s selected year. The scene is a comic convention, not a diagnosis or evidence about any real person’s mental health. Representative comic preview only, not an editable template. Original artist and reuse permissions are not established by the fetched secondary source; attribution does not clear artwork rights for public redistribution. Private research preview.
