About & sources

Photos of a black-and-white cat become a stop-motion dance, paired with a chant built for repetition and playful remixes.

Date

Steve Ibsen’s photographic cat music video; documented on Albino Blacksheep in March 2004.

History

The selected year marks documented web circulation, not a later YouTube reupload. Know Your Meme’s retrospective identifies artist Steve Ibsen and his cat Kayla, and dates his G-Shack upload to March 3, 2004. Albino Blacksheep’s own March 10, 2004 archive independently credits Steve Ibsen and describes converting the forum-submitted video into Flash. The retrospective dates a third-party YouTube upload to 2005 and Ibsen’s own YouTube copy to 2007; those are later circulation points, not creation dates. Its account describes subsequent remixes and parodies. The original G-Shack upload and exact first-publication claim have not been independently authenticated here. This representative photographic still does not preserve the playable animation or song. Attribution is not a license: photography, animation and music public reuse rights remain uncleared.
