About & sources

A rounded gray tabby turns snacks, naps and small everyday habits into shareable animated comics and reactions.

Date

A 2010 online comic by Claire Belton and Andrew Duff; a dedicated animation blog followed.

History

The selected 2010 marks the character’s first online comic appearance, as stated by Pusheen Corp., not the later launch of a dedicated Tumblr blog or chat stickers. Know Your Meme dates that separate blog to February 2011; its own entry was added in 2012. Contemporary coverage by Rusty Blazenhoff at Laughing Squid on February 20, 2012 describes the bouncy GIFs and links examples, including Pusheen dressed as Nyan Cat. The official company account places licensed Facebook chat stickers in 2013. This exhibit traces a webcomic character’s movement into everyday messaging, not a single anonymous caption template. Corporate reach estimates are not independently measured here. The preview is one representative GIF frame, not the complete animation or an authenticated debut comic. Character and image rights remain uncleared for public reuse; this is a private research preview.
