About & sources

Minimal black-and-white characters deliver abrupt, absurd punchlines in a rapid sketch anthology that also lends itself to reaction clips and remixes.

Date

TomSka’s webcomics adapted into short animated sketches; first film published in August 2008.

History

The selected 2008 marks the first animated film, not the earlier webcomics or every later catchphrase. Know Your Meme dates its YouTube upload to August 10, 2008 and traces the material to TomSka’s earlier asdfman comics on Sheezyart. The original Newgrounds submission independently displays an August 10, 2008 upload date; its author comments credit James Cunningham as animator, TomSka as director, and TomSka and Bing for voices (https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/453074). Know Your Meme describes later excerpts reused as reactions and remade with other characters. Its retrospective contains stale series totals and inconsistent later episode dates; those are not adopted here. The preview is a representative potato-character image from the series’ retrospective, not an authenticated frame of the first film. No animation or audio is hosted. Character, animation and image rights remain with their holders; attribution for this private prototype does not clear public reuse.
