A fake old-style computer alert says It’s Nearly October and Time to get spooky, with buttons Yes and Hell Yes.

October offers no opt-out

The computer has important news: it is time to get spooky. Both available buttons agree. It turns Halloween enthusiasm into a compulsory system update, with the little skull acting as the friendliest possible warning icon.

Captioned cows stand before a burning field: Shane played Spooky Scary Skeletons; he’s gone now.

Shane should have checked the playlist

The cows deliver a deadpan report of a wildly disproportionate response to the song. The fire makes their calm expressions absurd. This is a captioned fictional scenario, not evidence that a person named Shane disappeared or that the song caused a real incident.

A pencil drawing shows one skeleton shouting Spooky Scary Skeletons while another asks Are you kidding me and points out You are a skeleton.

You are a skeleton

One skeleton gets carried away with the spooky catchphrase. The other supplies the devastating anatomical correction: you are a skeleton. It is the Halloween equivalent of being scared of your own reflection, with a wonderfully unimpressed straight man.

About & sources

A cheerful Halloween song becomes a soundtrack for dancing skeletons, looping edits and seasonal remixes.

Date

Andrew Gold’s 1996 song; 2010 Skeleton Dance pairing, with earlier 2007 animation documented by KYM.

History

The selected year marks the 2010 video pairing, not the song’s creation or the first online use. Know Your Meme traces Andrew Gold’s song to the 1996 album Halloween Howls and describes a 2007 Newgrounds animation set to a remix. Its retrospective chronology dates JimmyWilson01’s pairing with the 1929 Disney short The Skeleton Dance to May 5, 2010, followed by covers and remixes including The Living Tombstone’s 2013 version. These dates are attributed to that retrospective account, not independently authenticated first-upload claims. The representative cartoon still is not a playable preservation of the song, dance or remix. Cartoon skeleton imagery; music and animation rights remain uncleared for public reuse.
