I KNOW THAT FEEL BRO

Source media ↗
About & sources

A simply drawn face expresses melancholy, empathy and countless later moods.

Date

Exact drawing origin unknown; an early comic is documented in 2009 and an archived Krautchan post in April 2010.

History

The artist behind the face remains unknown. Reddit user Voyack claimed to have found it on Vichan and popularized it on Krautchan; this is a poster’s account, not an artist credit. In the AMA reproduced by MEL, Voyack says the first “feel” concerned the absence of another board user, komturkode; loneliness about not having a girlfriend came later. “I know that feel, bro” turned the face into a gesture of empathy, often showing two figures embracing. Brian Feldman’s 2016 coverage describes pairings with Pepe’s “Feels bad, man.” By March 2017, his reporting documented large-brained Wojak edits in the “whomst” joke cycle alongside the emerging Expanding Brain format. Small visual changes let the melancholy reaction become many different personalities.
