The illustrated pirate performs the invitation with extravagant poses and a grin almost too large for his face. The captions carry the chorus even in this silent GIF excerpt. The archive tags and context connect the animation to Fred Perry; the 2024 archive date is not its original release.

The sea captain has been replaced by a copied operating-system disc. It is a direct pun on software piracy rather than a new nautical adventure. This is an archived image joke, not a software file, endorsement or instruction.

About & sources

A cheerful pirate singalong escaped children’s television to become a soundtrack for web loops, game-character performances and jokes about software piracy.

Date

LazyTown song from Rottenbeard; early web reuse documented on YTMND in 2004.

History

The selected 2004 covers both the LazyTown song and the early YTMND reuse described by Know Your Meme, rather than the later YouTube reposts. The retrospective dates the Rottenbeard episode to October 4, 2004 and a YTMND song-and-book-cover mashup to November 13 that year; these are source-attributed dates, not independently authenticated firsts here. It traces later software-piracy jokes, World of Warcraft machinima, a 300 parody and a 2011 Alestorm cover. Those adaptations are different works, not the original television performance. This representative Robbie Rotten still is not playable preservation of the song or episode. Television footage, music and performer-likeness rights are not cleared for public reuse by this private preview.
